Allow basic formatting in list items
Allow 'wiki-style' formatting such as bold, /italics/, underlined to be used in list items.

it's simply fantastic...

Markdown seems to becoming more and more common, with plug-ins available for several wikis as well as other applications, like Write Monkey.

Then that supports not using Markdown for this purpose, I'd say

My favourite basic markup system is Markdown. It's used in a bunch of other apps and sites. I particularly like StackOverflow's implementation and use of WMD editor: https://github.com/derobins/wmd

@stupidnothingemail If you want to highlight a list item, you can do it by setting a text or a background color (look under "Actions" menu or use keyboard shortcuts). It's not that we dislike the text formatting feature, just a hint you can use before we implement the rest.

A simple CTRL-B would be all I need. I don't have a need for formatting individual words, just items.

We will add such an editor eventually, but so far we have more important tasks, like due dates, tags, search. At least according to voices of users :)
Don't get me wrong - I don't think rich editor is not important task, but the combination of its complexity + priority doesn't put it to the top of the list yet. -

Yes, but you are referring to general look and feel, not notes. Why not just add an editor like for emails since most people are not HTML coders... surely it's not a big job - and it would make a massive difference. You could just do it for Pro users too.
-
BTW, default font size for tasks can be changed by the following custom CSS (which can be added in Checkvist Pro accounts):
ul#parentTask_0 li { font-size: 10pt; } /* First-level tasks */
ul#parentTask_0 ul li.task { font-size: 9pt; } /* other tasks */ -

It would be great if you added an editor like with emails so bold, italics etc were able to be used.
Also, the default size is way too small. No harm at all making it bigger.

We still do not support wiki-formatting, but you can use HTML in tasks and notes.

I have noticed that you can also use simple HTML for adding color such as <font color=red>red</font>

Also allow font size and line spacing to change. The default spacing and font really use a lot fo space, and do not enable enough lines on the page for best productivity.

Here's my attempt at a greasemonkey script to do this... it's not perfect, but it works. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/43233

Although it would be possible to implement this with greasemonkey... that's an idea! :)

Doh, posted comment on wrong item. Sorry.

BTW, I hacked together a user style (req. stylish for firefox) to do this. It's working well for me.

Another good idea. Will get a 1+ vote from me when I get some votes freed up.

Maybe keeping the current styling, but adding keyboard shortcuts for Ctrl-B, Ctrl-I and Ctrl-U? Either shortcuts or wiki-styling would be a critical factor to me.

Although I've just noticed that HTML such as <b>bold</b> is allowed.
