Really good and useful request.
Regarding accidental data loss: Checkvist Pro account gives you up to 10 daily backups of all your lists. Not the same, but may help in some cases.

It's pretty useable already on my Android Froyo device. However, I would really love to have basic task moving up/down and change nesting level be supported in the mobile UI.
Could a pop up box (or sidebar) come up after a long press/click? The pop up box can show up/down, left/right arrows and cancel buttons. I'm hoping the maxkir.cmd.move_up() scripts and similar would be supported in android/iphone browser javascript engine. ;-)

I noted this is non trivial. Perhaps as the first cut, may be sufficient to just import Markdown based on the Headings as one node each at the related level. If the Heading has bullets/paragraph include them as multiline markdown text in the node. IMHO. ;-)
