I would really appreciate if simple hash tagging (like #home or @home) + ability to search by manually entered tag is added.
Now it is hard to model 2 separate hierarchies:
- project (in my case like "License game X to company Y" with tasks like "Implement sitelocking", "Sign contract", "Bring documents to bank")
- context (at home, at internet connection, at home office, at bank, at skype, do someday in future).Extra UI features (cloud, list of tags) are nice, but something really quick and simple will be more than enough for me.
I am not using checkvist extensively yet, but if tags are in, I will very seriously consider switching from todoist. You have much better mobile app (at least you have one ;) ), and ability to clone task list is just great for recurring projects (like "Pack stuff for business trip").

I'd love to see tags implemented perhaps using #hashtags. A universal entry box would be brilliant, and autocomplete. But by far the biggest thing on my tag wishlist would be that the tags get printed on the print screen (RTM leaves them off) and that I could SORT BY TAGS. I would love to print off my daily to-dos and see that all the tasks I have listed for doing at my computer are grouped, and all the tasks I can do when I leave the office are grouped. This is VITAL to usable tagging.

@mark Thanks for the detailed description. It really helps to understand how people work with Checkvist. We are planning to support tags + assignees (as a special kind of tags with notifications, etc). Filtering is also planned. And I'm especially glad to hear you use Checkvist as a project planning tool. That's what we're aiming for!

I'm really pleased to hear that tagging is on the way. I'm hoping it may provide a mechanism for task allocation. I'm already using Checkvist as a project management tool for even quite complex projects. The Due Date feature is a big help here, and if tagging allows task allocation, Checkvist will become the only project management app I ever need, I think.
For best results, it would be possible to show only the tasks marked with a specific tag. Also, it would be good to be able to subscribe to additional or changed tasks matching a particular tag. Subscription could be by email or RSS - either would be very helpful.

That's excellent news! - this is what I need before switching full-time to Checkvist

Can't wait!

Currently we're working on due dates, feature, and tagging is the next in the queue. I hope we'll release tagging soon after the new year.

This has been under review for over a month. Will this be released soon?

I don't know if you have seen the new RTM feature for adding syntax to tasks (http://j.mp/yUEL4). This is AWESOME! It keeps the UI uncluttered and adds TONS of functionality.
I would love to see something like this implemented. I could see Checkvist knocking out all competition with syntax like that. RTM lacks in a lot of areas (especially customer service).
If you could add these few features you could really take a huge chunk of the market.
Thanks!

If I could give this one topic all 10 of my votes I would. This would be an incredible addition to checkvist.
Thanks for listening.

I just discovered checkvist today - what a fabulous tool! I have already taken a look at the mobile interface via my blackberry storm and it is perfect for me - very easy to add or check off an item while on the run. Tagging and the ability to search by multiple tags would be a huge plus. I like the way delicious has implemented tagging - they use autocomplete, ability to merge tags, etc.

We should definetely support hashtags, like #checkvist

If this was implemented in a way that allowed for muliple tagging, it would eliminate the need for many of the fields that other task management systems use. I like the way "Things" uses tags. It makes is very simple and easy to filter down to what you looking for.
For example, you could tag something with @office, next-action, project-x
I love the simplicity of Checkvist and I would hate to see a multitude of fields destroy that.
Thanks for listening.

Maybe make Auto-Complete optional?
I like how Remember the Milk handles tagging, including the auto-complete. I also like that I can view/edit my tags and combine multiple tags in to one tag, a great ability for misspellings or when I have tagged some items with someone's proper name and other items with their nickname :-)
I would prefer tags be case-sensitive, but only if allowing such would not counter standards.

Part 2 - In addition, Todoist do not make it as easy as it could be to search for all tasks with a certain tag; Rather, users have to type '@nameoftag' into a search box and not click on a top menu link. In contrast, Nozbe and Remember The Milk [boo and hiss respectively ;) ] do this well.

Part 1 - If this feature is implemented, I would like it if Checkvist *didn't* implement tagging like Todoist where there is no auto-complete function; If users want to assign a tag, they have to type in @nameoftag every single time for every single applicable task. Second bad thing is that there is no way of renaming a tag without having a Premium Todoist subscription.

@xray3 Interesting UI solution for selecting tags, thanks for pointing!

There would be a tag cloud and allow users to add 2+ tags to search for a task as only allowing 1 tag can lead to too much noise and not enough 'signal'. Diigo.com do a pretty good job at implementing tagging. It would be good allow tagging of projects and tasks/sub-tasks.

Tags would solve a need to uniquely identify a list used repetitively like a template list or group lists. Tags should be included in export.
