Have an option to turn off due dates entirely for a given list
Sometimes a list is simply an outline and the due dates become an annoyance. I would like the ability to disable due dates for lists.
Should be fixed on checkvist.com (when global option is set on the profile page)

Thanks - it now works exactly as I expected (which is great!)

OK, thanks for the feedback.
I've updated http://beta.checkvist.com with a version where partial completion is disabled. Please try it. -

I agree with Sylvia - if I wanted popups, I would use ^ or turn off the option to require ^. Explicitly turning off popups, then having them show up when I don't use ^ defeats the purpose of the option.
The use case where I hit this most is when I'm writing a day's summary. I usually type something like "summary for wed" then Shift-Enter to get a newline but instead of the newline, wed is converted into ^wednesday and I have to go back and delete ^wednesday, type the wed again and remember to hit Escape before hitting Shift-Enter.
It would be wonderful to not have to worry about deadline popups.

Yes... very unuseful. Off should mean OFF. If a user has turned off due date popups, that means they have specifically said they don't want them. Always respect a user's stated preference. Popups can be visually distracting, and disrupt the user's thought processes.
I get that you are very proud of developing this cool predictive popup, and I am sure it is extremely helpful for people who are using Checkvist exactly as you expect them to. But it's only cool if the items in the list happen to be tasks that have due dates!

@jaden You get these popups after entering 3 characters of the day name. Also, the popup disappears if you continue entering text. Is this behaviour unuseful for you?

Even with the global option checked for "Due date recognition only with ^prefix" I still get popups for today, tomorrow, and day names. Am I missing something?

Just in case, you can always use ^today syntax to add a due date, even if you disable plain 'today' syntax in global options.

Thank you for the global option to turn off due parsing. Since I use Checkvist pretty much entirely for game requirements design rather than task lists, this solves my immediate problem.
However, someone who wishes to use it both ways (could be me at some future date) is still going to want a per-list option. It's inherent in the nature of lists -- some have due dates attached, and some just don't.

Per list because it could make sense for some lists to have due dates associated with tasks, but other lists where you're just gathering your thoughts our outlining a topic and due dates just get in the way.

I returned to Chekvist after not using it for a while, and found popup due date prompts dogging my every step. Very disconcerting, when you're just trying to use it as a tool for arranging your thoughts! To avoid this, do I have to develop the habit of starting every item with a period and a backspace?
I would really, really like the ability to turn off due dates entirely for a given list.

Do you think this should be per-list option or per-user option? Why would you want to have this option different for different lists?

The option could be to disable "smart parsing" of all kinds, and only accept more explicit syntax, such as "(due:2011-06-21)"

I also vote for a list option. I often enter a date in an item text (e.g. "Notes from second meeting, 2011-06-21"), and I always forget the dot ;-)

I'd also prefer a list option. While it may not seem like adding a . at the end of every task is hard, it's easy to forget
