Flexible reminders
Email alerts only show tasks in the immediate future (today, tomorrow), and as far as I'm aware this is not configurable. I would like to set more long-distance reminders for complex tasks, e.g. writing a long report. For example, I would like to set a reminder for two weeks before the report is due. I can do this by creating a separate task, e.g. "reminder for report X" and setting the due date. However, it would be really nifty if I could set a reminder using a shortcut key, without having to create an extra task (or is there another way to do this?)

Kirill, you asked
"Why don't you like an idea of creating "Start working on a report" or "Start collecting materials for the report from XXX" sub-tasks for the "Create a report" task?"
One possible answer is that such an option requires copying the complete parent task (using the mouse, or a series of keystrokes) and adding "Start" in front of it, then un-capitalizing the original first letter of the task description. Is it not so? If so, this may still be easy, but it feels a bit clumsy and the end result looks clumsy. Not buggy or unusable, but...
Anothe asnwer is - this option is actually not available when you create tasks by forwarding them via email. To me, it seems useful to be able to somehow signal that a task should be included in the "due" list X days before its due date, as a per-task data item.

Thanks - yes perhaps I need to alter my workflow slightly as you suggest...

Thanks for the suggestion, Nick.

For me, it would be much more natural way of using Checkvist. I'd even use Checkvist to collect links to the materials.
