pasting multilines from clipboard creates multi list items
when pasting text with multiple lines, for example:
line1
line2
line3
should paste into 3 list items rather than into the text of one. I often make lists in plain text and want to import them into checkvist

I would argue that it's the other way round. The most common use case is to paste multi tasks. This is the default in workflowy for example, and omni outliner. However I appreciate that the functionality is available in import so I'll just keep using that

Thanks for the issue, but I don't think you're right here.
People may want to create multi-line list items as well as per-line items.
For instance, add some text, than copy-paste multiline text, add more text.
We should clearly distinguish when multi-line list items are created - so we have a specific command for import.
May be you should vote for another request - allow to split/merge multiline list items: http://checkvist.uservoice.com/forums/2121-general/suggestions/3743133-multiselect-merge-and-split-successive-tasks

I'm aware that this functionality is available in "import items" but it should really work by default when pasteing.
