    I think he wants to be able to attach a note to the list itself, rather than the items within the list. An easy workaround is to just create an item at the top of the list, and use that item for notes that apply to the entire list. As long as you don't close this item, the notes would remain active and visible. And just a comment about losing notes - notes are not lost when a task is completed - they are still there to be viewed as needed. (You may have to uncheck "hide completed tasks" from the View Options menu to see them.)
