We would really want to implement this in a new mobile HTML5 app for iphone/android devices first.

Existing android/mobile web solution is usable, but giving it at least the offline usability would be great.
I do care about ability to read the list items, when I am out of my computer. I do not care much about ability to edit items on the go, I prefer to make a note to my small NoteTaker (just on paper) and enter it as soon as I am at my computer.
