    I like this idea. I was going to suggest the same thing. I wish each checklist had this as an optional setting.

    > parent item
    o child 1
    o child 2
    o child 3
    > C-l-o-s-e-d (<-- this would be "strikethrough" font)
    x child 4.1
    x child 4.2

    "close" Child 2 would cause it to marked closed and move automatically under the C-l-o-s-e-d branch.

    I like this joining but even simpler. instead of requiring multi-select to join, no selection is required for join. when you press the join key combo, the row below the Selected row is appended to the end of the selected row.
