Google calendar integration

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Hello Alan,
You should see task items with due in the future as well.
Please pay attention to the options for the iCalendar link - there are some, which may limit the scope of visible tasks. For instance, due tasks from archived lists are not included by default.
Otherwise, there may be a bug, and I'd appreciate if you send details to kirsa@checkvist.com (due task screenshot, calendar link settings, calendar page).
Thanks!

Thanks again CheckVist for your wonderfully relentless improvements to this superb app.
I have this feature working in Google Calendar, but it only shows content in the past. Is there a way to see what's coming up?

Seems to be working fine. Thanks for continuing to make Checkvist even awesomer!

A preliminary version of iCalendar support is ready and available on http://beta.checkvist.com
You can find it either on the top right corner of the Due page, or you can get it from the 'dd' popup window.Basically, we convert open due tasks to iCalendar events which last the whole day (due date).
Name of the event is constructed as list name + task content. URL of the task is attached to the event as well.
ASAP tasks are converted either to 'today' events, or to Calendar TODO items, as specified by the user.
There are several options on how to choose lists for the tasks which go to the Calendar.
And the last note - this integration doesn't support Google Tasks integration with Google Calendar, there is a separate request for Google Tasks integration. -
@B.S. Regarding Google task integration - we've got a separate request for this feature recently, let's discuss it there. So far I'm not quite convinced we need this integration: http://checkvist.uservoice.com/forums/2121-general/suggestions/3284114-integrate-with-google-tasks
@all - We've started working on iCal integration and we're trying to apply your feedback (thank you!). So far I think we'll need some customization window, because it looks like it is rather hard to create calendar with data which would satisfy everyone's needs.

I don't understand ... why sync with google calendar instead of google tasks (which can optionally be shown on one's calendar?)
Arguably, the checkvist list could correspond to a gtask task list.
What will be important, from a GTD viewpoint, aside from checked as completed tasks [which would show on past days in calendar with checkmark / crossed out as completed]... only the next due task (of the summary / sub-tasks below that subsection) should appear in the gtask list. Don't overwhelm the calendar / gtask, just show the next due task. [This could be done in gtask by not having any of the subtasks have a date on the gtask side - preventing those tasks from showing up on the calendar, while letting the user see the lists in the gtasks interface / widget.]
Agreed: Have a checkbox for sync with google. I may need milk today, but I don't need that to appear on my calendar. (Although I would want ... get groceries on way home, in the calendar, just not the items on the list of things to pick up)

Hi Kirill,
I agree with the answers and additional ideas from Andrey with the following addition:
I don't want all task with due in my google calendar. I suggest to add task with due by default to the iCal feed but allow marking individual task's and whole lists NOT to add to the iCal feed. Of course with a keyboard short cut ;-): nc = no cal?
Thanks

Hi Kirill,
My personal preferences - as a user:
Question 1 - current day is OK.
Question 2 - if it possible, add notes into the body / description of the calendar event.
Question 3 - Archived lists and their due items - should not be visible.
Question 4 - all tasks, since I need to see events in calendar in context, relativly to each other.Couple of additional ideas:
- Add Name of checvist list into subject - to understand, where item come from the first glance.
- Add link or URL of checkvist list somewhere into event, description or notes, so i will be able to quickly navigate. -
Hello everyone,
We've started some coding to offer iCal feed from the Checkvist.
Most likely, this will be a Checkvist PRO feature.
We consider converting tasks with due into Calendar events, which would span the whole day (we don't have time specification for the due, and so far we'd stick with this).
Question 1: What should we do with tasks due ASAP? So far, we think about placing them to the current day.
Question 2: Shall we do anything with notes for the task and put it somewhere in Calendar item?
Question 3: Due items from archived lists - do you need them in the calendar, or this should be an option (you know, we don't like options, actually ;)
Question 4: Should we put all due tasks to the calendar, or only those selected for Due e-mail notifications in PRO plan?
So many questions tonight, but I'd be glad to hear your opinion.
Thanks! -
@Pablo, unfortunately, still no estimates, we haven't settled our plans yet after the recent release of file attachments.

Hi, is there any estimates on this already? Thank you very much :)

Please please develop this. Being able to put deadlines into my calendar (which syncs to the main office) would be great, as it would allow my boss and coworkers see when and what I'm working on projects.
-
Unfortunately, not yet. And no estimates so far.

Checkvist is a wonderful app. I keep finding more and more ways to use it. But Gcal integration would make this tool the best of the best for so many kinds of work...

We really need this, I keep on coming back to Checkvist which is the best, but many CRM's integrate with GM using the iCal api, maybe it's not that hard.
Thx -
thinkdata commented
Kirill - I have not. I was thinking of functionality in other tools that have a calendar UI (which in turn synchs to GC).
What I was trying to unravel is how to intuitively select which tasks with due dates to synch, as this could quickly become unwieldy. -
@thinkdata Have you seen other tools which provide drag-n-drop integration with Google Calendar? This may be tough unless GC allows such kind of integration.
-
thinkdata commented
Synch is ok, but:
use case #1 - drag task to calendar, it stays there and due date is returned
use case #2 - drag calendar item to Checkvist - creates task and link.
