How can we improve Checkvist?

2 Enters to start another new task

When I create a task, I click enter to finalize it. This is all good, except the natural function is to start a new task below it. Is there any way to stop this from happening. It seems a little unnatural. I have to click Enter, then "ESC" or click out of the task to get it to go away.

I would propose you click enter to add the current task, and then you would have to click enter AGAIN to start a new task.

I like the new "1 enter = stay on same line / 2 enters = create new line" approach.

I actually hadn't discovered yet that double enter gets me back to same line. That helps a lot. Not intuitive for new users. But fast enough once discovered. So I guess the question is which is more common? Brainstorming items quickly in succession or entering items and then wanting to tag them right away with due dates, etc. I still contend that double enter to get to next item is more intuitive than double-enter to remain on same line.

Interesting one. I am kind of used to the "double enter" to get rid of the blank line... but it would be nice not to have to do that. The up-arrow moves up to the entry preceding the new entry, so that doesn't work for me. After testing it for a bit, my preference would be to require a second "enter" to get the new blank line. Change the behavior as Vin suggested.

        Hi,

Maybe this new idea could work - as long as I would have the freedom to browse away (click on another link etc) without waiting the 2-3 seconds after entering my one task; Although a couple of seconds is a very short period of time to wait.

I don't like the timeout idea much. Because what I'm wanting is to type the item, hit Enter, then immediately hit (for example) "as" for ASAP.
The current behavior requires me to find another key like UP to get back to what I just entered.
I think for the brainstorming scenario, hitting Enter twice is no great inconvenience. That can quickly become automatic. Perhaps <alt> Enter immediately enters current and opens new.

I left 1 vote for it. Why?
Current behaviour is good enough in active usage. But usually I use checkvist to write down just 1 thing not to forget it. So, current behaviour makes me mad. And it seems to me, that it's possible to have some design solutions, which are a bit uncomfortable in some cases. But this one really makes me mad. It's bad.
But, to be honest, a timeout-based solution is even worse. And I can't offer any better one :( So, I think you (we?) should really think _hard_ before changing something.

I agree with Vin as well. When I enter something and then want to add a note or due date or anything else, I have to hit "enter" and then esc or up arrow again. It seems more natural to me to have "enter" save it and leave you on the same one for adding such things. One more "enter" to add a new item is pretty quick and natural to me. Doesn't require changing keys or looking. I don't see that as a hindrance to brainstorming whatsoever.

I would agree with Vin. This bugs me too. I don't know how Vin's solution would work and I've tried Kirill's solution but it doesn't seem to work.

For brainstorming purposes, you'll usually add one task after another in a row - this is why we show a fileld for adding another new task.
To skip adding, no need to press Escape. You can use Enter or up/down arrow keys as well.
